BC United statement on Nisga’a purchase of TC Energy pipeline

BC United Shadow Minister for Energy and LNG, Ellis Ross, released the following statement in response to the recent announcement that TC Energy is selling the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission Project to Nisga’a First Nation and Western LNG:

“Supporting projects like the Ksi Lisims LNG and PRGT are part of Kevin Falcon and BC United’s Resource Prosperity Plan, designed to create jobs, boost paycheques, and maximize B.C.’s natural resource advantage in addressing global climate change.

“The sale of the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission Project is a significant milestone for First Nations role in the global energy sector and highlights the untapped potential within British Columbia. This project, led by the partnership of the Nisga’a First Nation and Western LNG, highlights the importance of Indigenous leadership in major projects.

“Under the former BC Liberal (BC United) government, British Columbia was on the brink of becoming a global LNG powerhouse, with 19 proposed LNG export facilities. Today, we find ourselves with a fraction of that potential realized, with only four projects proposed or in operation.

“That is why I am calling on David Eby and the NDP to do everything they can to support the project proponents and their efforts to renew of the Environmental Assessment Certificate for the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission project before it expires at the end of the year. This action is essential to our collective commitment to securing a sustainable future for British Columbia.”
